We are the air-delivery specialists of Idaho’s backcountry. We have safely flown anything that can be flown such as: farm tractors, lumber, refrigerators, and concrete, anything to do with the wilderness resorts or mountain ranches –even chickens!! We fly hunters, fisherman hikers, photographers and videographers, campers and river runners, and are competent flying heavy loads in and out of small strips. We have flown for animal studies, aerial recon forest fires, US Forest service, Idaho Fish and Game, and BLM. We have flown live (sedated) Mountain Lions and Grey Wolves as well as emergency response on request, and, flying the US mail. Our pilots have had many years flying in all types of aircraft, weather and situations.
Keeping people and loved ones out of harms way comes from experience. Experience cannot be taught, it must be learned. It all began with our father -Bill Dorris, a World War II marine pilot, and C.O. He began flying Idaho from the early 50’s and continued into the mid 90’s. During that time he taught four of his sons to fly in the Idaho backcountry. Bill started his own flying service out of McCall in the early 70’s, flying thousands of hours in the Idaho backcountry, and was a beloved mentor of many backcountry pilots.
Mike Dorris – owner of Sawtooth Flying Service, has been flying Idaho and operating an FBO from the mid 70’s. He is highly sought out by many as the safest and most experienced pilot in Idaho’s backcountry.
